C-I and the Canal & River Trust have come together to launch a new project at one of the Trust's landmark locations inside the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The unique double radial gates at Carpenters Road Lock are being refurbished over the next six months, creating new facilities for visitors on land and on the waterways.
City-Insights was already set to co-create digital heritage, wayfinding and trails once the project completes in May 2017, but we offered our flexible and knowledge-sharing Platform to start early; offering regular updates and information about the restoration project as it goes forward.
The C-I Platform is Mobile First, inviting anyone to use their own devices and, using QR, NFC and analog codes on the site hoarding, find out about the engineering challenges and project milestones, view timelapse films and hear memories revealing the way the canal used to look (and smell).
You can follow the lock's restoration online at www.crl.london and see this unique location given new life.
"It was all smells - there were so many little factories and things like that around here that you could walk about and know where you were by the smell."
