Client: Oxford University Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology
Date: 2013 – Present
Need: The Ashmolean Museum, the oldest public museum in the world, was putting on their first ever installation of a contemporary artist, Xu Bing. His work is complex, using Chinese characters to explore the uses and abuses of language. His installation was called, Landscape, Landscript.
Response: Working with the artist and curatorial team, we developed a free-to-access/no download digital platform for smartphones, tablets and PCs. We created content that explored Xu’s work and inspirations, including interviews with the artist, historical perpectives from curators, and trails that helped people of all ages understand and explore his artworks.
Learning: People like to enjoy art in different ways. Layering digital interpretation and interactivity into the exhibition development plan takes up no physical real estate and creates a diverse range of experiences for your visitors.
