Past...Present...Future...exploring King's Cross
14/12/15
This summer City-Insights developed a digital heritage trail around the 64 acre redevelopment site at King's Cross right in the heart of London.
With a history that stretches back to Boudicca and Roman Londinium, the identity of King's Cross is changing beyond recognition, so development company Argent Llp. decided to take the digital plunge.
The KXplorer.com/Past heritage trail is a means to retain and publicise the area's illustrious social and industrial heritage, as well as publicise the developers' and designers' vision for the future.
The main successes of the project were twofold;
(i) we delivered a varied set of multimedia-placemaking experiences about the past, present and future of King's Cross helping to retain, publicise, enhance and evolve the sense of place that makes King's Cross unique;
(ii) we demonstrated the power of City-Insights to maximise the value of expensive corporate assets (CGIs, timelapses, fly-throughs, heritage trails, etc.) usually left unseen in a company hard drive.
This project has demonstrated the potential for cultural/heritage/humanities driven businesses, like City-Insights, to collaborate with big industry partners to create very forward thinking, informative and accessible experiences in changing urban environments.
