The internet of things

As technology advances, new terms and ways of thinking emerge that could potentially change our way of life. One term we are particularly excited about is “The Internet of Things”.  The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

This term has been at the top of nearly every predictions list of 2015. It applies to everything from smart appliances, to pacemakers in the human body, to environment monitoring systems. But IoT has the potential to mean a great number of other things. As the new technology becomes more sophisticated, the key is to avoid bundling all these things into one category. Just like there are now many models of what we previously deemed ‘The Cloud’, we should understand that there will be many functions and versions of IoT.

We at City-Insights have been developing several new ways to use our Platform which we feel could be particularly relevant here.  One way is Soft Landings, which is a method of helping construction companies and their new tenants get a handle on newly built premises. We think this fits in snugly with the new “Internet of Things” ideal and are having a ball developing it.
