Viking Queues

Queuing at attractions is inevitable. Can it also be fun? City-Insights was commissioned by Jorvik Viking Centre to transform their queuing experience over their busy summer period.
Using signs along the queue route, coppergatealive.com is an interactive preview of the amazing Viking objects that visitors will get so see. Film, audio and a specially devised family trail gave people plenty to discover while waiting. Sarah Maltby, Director of Attractions at York Archeological Trust says:
“The mobile web Platform was a great way for the public to explore the artefacts discovered in Coppergate during its excavation that led to the creation JORVIK. It allowed us to use existing interpretation material in new and engaging ways taking the finds out of the ground and into their hands.”
Following the success of coppergatealive.com, Jorvik is now expanding the Platform to cover Europe’s biggest Viking Festival in York in 2015. Skol!
City-Insights is now exploring how location-specific information can be adapted to enhance other ‘waiting time’ experiences at hospitals, visitor attractions and business environments.
