Newport accessed an urban renewal fund to promote local pride in the city’s culture and diversity.
We worked with local historians, communities and archives to create a walk-around guide to the city’s landmarks, industries and heroes. The main part of this Platform used street signage to mark the location of important events or vanished buildings, brought to life through archive film and old photos. Oral history expressed different accounts and perspectives on the city’s character, in the words of long-term residents, many of them originally from elsewhere.
Now, in 2016, Newport is upgrading!
